Persatuan Pembangunan Artisans (PPA) is celebrating 14 remarkable women-led businesses and communities that have resiliently rebuilt their businesses amidst uncertain economic times over the past 3 years. These proudly homegrown artisans received awards of recognition for their unwavering entrepreneurial perseverance and for emerging as best sellers on The Artisans Haven, a specialised e-commerce marketplace and 3 retail outlets for local artisans.

The award presentation ceremony, held on 16 May 2023 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, was officiated by YB Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy binti Haji Shukri, Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development. Her presence at the event aimed to further strengthen the drive for women's empowerment and equality in the Malaysian entrepreneurial scene, where the potential of women-led businesses have yet to be fully tapped.

The women-led businesses are: Helping Hands Penan Bhd, The Asli Co., Gocheeks, Cherita Chocolate, Tudung Saji Che Ton, Caropaya' Handicraft, Olfac3 Perfumes, Neecola Handmade, Mizzy Collections, Candle Pit Stop, TAS by Woman of Substance, Createe Kit, Puhus Pepper Plantation, and Enfiniti Academy.

Mohar Ibrahim, a Board Member of Persatuan Pembangunan Artisans, shared: “Surviving and thriving in the past few years has been challenging even for large-scale businesses. That’s why it’s all the more inspiring to see the extraordinary courage, creativity, and resilience that these women entrepreneurs embody. PPA is honoured to have hosted them at this award ceremony in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and will remain committed to creating a more robust support and empowerment network for women and the local artisanal community.”

The award ceremony is part of PPA’s Empowering Women and Communities 2023 campaign, a year-long initiative that aims to promote and celebrate handcrafted products made by women artisans. The campaign is supported by CIMB Bank, DHL Malaysia, and FMT Media. Shining light on inspiring stories about local artisanal enterprises, PPA and The Artisans Haven will be organising a series of talks and workshops, as well as three grand Jom Artisans Bazaars in the Klang Valley.

Julian Neo, Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei said: “As the world's leading international express service provider, we believe in the importance of giving sellers a platform to share their wares with the world. DHL has been supporting women-led and artisanal businesses in trading across borders through our global GoTrade initiative in 220 countries. We are proud to partner with The Artisans Haven and lend our support to celebrating small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, a core community for the global express service industry.

“We are proud to support The Artisans Haven and PPA in elevating the local artisan community and empowering women entrepreneurs through this meaningful campaign, as we work together to drive inclusive growth. As a purpose-driven organisation, we hope to generate greater appreciation for our local crafts and encourage more Malaysians to support these inspiring women for their exceptional resilience and creativity. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the award winners who are truly deserving of this recognition”, said Effendy Shahul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer, Group Consumer and Digital Banking of CIMB Group.

From now till 15 June 2023, CIMB customers will enjoy 10% off regular priced items for selected brands at Jom Artisans Bazaars when they purchase with their debit or credit card. For more information on the participating brands, please visit https://deals.cimb.com/darti.

The second of the Jom Artisans Bazaars, held in conjunction with International Women’s Day, is happening now until 14 June 2023 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Featuring 40 local brands, the bazaar is helping the local artisanal community to connect with each other as well as with more Malaysians to take their small businesses forward. From festival gift sets to home décor pieces, visitors can expect to find a variety of intricate and bespoke items handmade with love by proud Malaysian crafters, many of whom are women.

“Beyond purely supporting the development of our artisans, The Artisans Haven provides a platform and 3 outlets that connect them directly with Malaysians all over the country. These micro-ventures can create their own wealth of opportunities and reach a wider target audience to grow their businesses and income,” says Jade Lee, CEO & Co-Founder of The Artisans Haven.
