Royal Patronage and AFC Endorsement Mark a Landmark Moment for Malaysia's Grassroots Youth Sports Initiative For Under-Resourced Communities

Royal patronage marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to making sport accessible, inclusive, and transformative for marginalised children and youth

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 JULY 2026 – Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Fahad Mua'adzam Shah has accepted the role of Patron of the Dignity Cup, an annual youth sports tournament organised by Dignity for Children Foundation. This patronage marks the beginning of a sustained, values-driven commitment to champion sport as a vehicle for youth development, social inclusion, and national progress – one that will grow alongside the Dignity Cup’s expanding reach for years to come.

Born eighteen years ago from a desire to give underprivileged children a safe space to play, the Dignity Cup has grown into one of Malaysia’s most meaningful grassroots sports initiatives. The 2026 edition will bring together 164 teams across football and volleyball – spanning categories from Under-8 to Under-18 boys, as well as girls’ and open divisions – with over 2,150 young participants drawn from marginalised communities, Orang Asli villages, and urban low-income neighbourhoods. Beyond the pitch, the initiative reaches deeper into underserved communities through football clinics and outreach visits to Orang Asli villages across Pahang, including Raub, Temerloh, Jerantut, and Cameron Highlands.

The Dignity Cup’s mission aligns with the Asian Football Confederation’s Dream Asia Foundation initiative, which champions access to sport for underserved communities across the continent. The AFC has endorsed the Dignity Cup 2026, recognising it as an expression of the values Dream Asia Foundation stands for.
