Discover Guizhou Brings the Province’s Culture, Cuisine and Cool-Climate Charm to Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, 29 AUGUST 2026 — The colours, flavours and traditions of Guizhou came alive at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur as the Discover Guizhou: China–Malaysia Cultural Tourism and Audiovisual Exchange Journey introduced Malaysian audiences to one of China’s most distinctive travel destinations.
Held on 29 August, the event brought together more than 100 guests from Malaysian government agencies, tourism organisations, media, business associations, tour operators, universities and aviation companies, alongside more than 20 influencers and content creators.
Through destination showcases, ethnic music and dance, traditional fashion and immersive experiences, guests discovered Guizhou’s dramatic landscapes and rich ethnic heritage.
Among the highlights was a performance by the Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre featuring Young Men, Four-Stringed Lutes and Rhododendron Blossoms. Malaysian and Guizhou performers also came together for Singing in Antiphony Until Sunset, demonstrating how music and movement can bridge cultures.
Seven Malaysian models added a local touch to a showcase of elaborate traditional Miao dresses from Guizhou, giving audiences an up-close look at the craftsmanship and cultural stories behind the distinctive garments.
The event also put the spotlight on Anshun, a city known for its pleasant summer climate, spectacular scenery and centuries-old cultural traditions. Guests were introduced to attractions including Huangguoshu Waterfall, the water-filled karst caves of Loong Palace and Tunpu culture, alongside Anshun’s much-loved local cuisine.
Four curated travel itineraries focusing on natural scenery, ethnic culture and cool-climate escapes were unveiled, together with special travel offers designed to encourage Malaysians to experience Anshun for themselves.
For Malaysian visitors, Guizhou’s combination of waterfalls, mountains, ethnic villages, distinctive food and cooler weather proved particularly appealing. Travel and lifestyle influencer Vivienne said Huangguoshu Waterfall immediately caught her attention, while Dato’ Joyce Yap Soh Ching described Guizhou as a “real eye-opener” and a destination worth visiting at least once.
The Discover Guizhou programme also extended beyond the main event. A Guizhou Cultural Street at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur featured local cuisine, tourism displays and interactive experiences, allowing shoppers and visitors to experience elements of the province’s culture in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
The delegation further held discussions with Malaysian government, media and business organisations to explore opportunities in audiovisual content, media cooperation and tourism partnerships, strengthening people-to-people and industry exchanges between Malaysia and Guizhou.
