The Bag That Made the Record Books: remadesia Turns Waste into a Malaysian Icon
KUALA LUMPUR, 20 September 2026 — It’s big, bold and made from something most people would throw away. Malaysian upcycled bag brand remadesia has made its mark in the Malaysia Book of Records with the official recognition of its “Biggest Upcycled Tarpaulin Bag” — a giant installation created from reclaimed and surplus industrial tarpaulin.
Measuring an eye-catching 410cm high, 220cm long and 120cm wide, the oversized bag became the centrepiece of remadesia’s showcase at Malaysia Circular Economy & Sustainability Week 2026, held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
More than a record-breaking display, the giant bag offered a playful way to rethink what “waste” can become.
The milestone event was graced by Kebawah Duli Paduka Baginda Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who visited the sustainability and circular economy showcases.
Visitors were invited to get hands-on with upcycling through activities including the Upcycled Bag Sand Bag Challenge, a DIY Personalise Corner, creative photo opportunities and a showcase of remadesia’s collection of bags made from reclaimed materials.
One of the most memorable features was the giant bag itself, where members of the public could leave their signatures. With every signature, the record-setting installation became more than a brand showcase — it became a collective expression of support for a greener Malaysia.
“Receiving recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records is an important milestone in remadesia’s journey, but more importantly, we hope it can serve as a starting point for more people to understand circular design, material reuse and responsible consumption,” said Founder Alfred Kong.
Co-founder Cindy Wong hopes remadesia can also become part of Malaysia’s souvenir story, giving visitors a locally made product that carries more than just a logo.
“We hope they can bring home not only a Made by Malaysia product, but also a story about materials, craftsmanship, community and sustainability.”
From industrial tarpaulin to everyday bags, remadesia’s message is simple: waste can have another life — and it can look good too.
Made From Waste. Built To Last.
