Colouring Malaysia With Creativity: ECO-SHOP Celebrates Young Patriots Through Art

55 young winners take home RM27,800 in prizes as Eco-Shop’s ‘Raikan Seni Kita, Jiwa Bangsa’ campaign brings Merdeka celebrations to life

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 SEPTEMBER 2026 – What does Malaysia mean to our children? For young participants at Eco-Shop’s ‘Raikan Seni Kita, Jiwa Bangsa’ Colouring Contest, the answer came alive in a burst of colours, creativity and national pride.

Held at the Muhibbah Community Complex in Kuala Lumpur, the Merdeka-themed celebration brought together close to 300 children, including 252 primary school students from more than 15 schools across Kuala Lumpur and 44 children from participating welfare homes.

Using Eco-Shop’s house-brand KREATI stationery, the young artists coloured original artwork created by local creative collective Projek SembangSembang, interpreting Malaysia through their own imagination and perspective.

Ms Jessica Ng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Eco-Shop Malaysia, said the initiative was designed to encourage young Malaysians to explore what the country means to them while nurturing creativity and a sense of belonging.

“The colouring contest gives students a chance to express what Malaysia means to them through art. We hope it encourages them to celebrate their creativity and develop a stronger sense of belonging to the country they call home,” she said.

From 252 contestants, 55 winners were selected, comprising five top winners and 50 consolation winners. The top five received cash prizes ranging from RM100 to RM1,500, while their schools received prizes and enhancement support. The first-place winner received RM1,500, while the winning school received RM10,000 in enhancement funding.

The 50 consolation winners each received a RM100 Eco-Shop voucher, while every participating school received a RM500 Eco-Shop voucher as a token of appreciation. The celebration also included children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim dan Asnaf Qaseh Ibu and Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia, who joined in the colouring festivities and received contributions from Eco-Shop.

“Seeing the children bring their own ideas and interpretations to the artwork is a meaningful way to close the campaign. There is no single way to express what Malaysia means to us, and we hope the children leave today knowing that their perspectives have a place in our shared story,” Ms Jessica Ng added.

The Colouring Contest marked the finale of Eco-Shop’s ‘Raikan Seni Kita, Jiwa Bangsa’ campaign, which ran nationwide from 1 August to 30 September 2026 in conjunction with Malaysia’s 69th Merdeka celebrations.
