HEINEKEN Malaysia Scores Two Golds for Responsible Manufacturing and Water Stewardship
PETALING JAYA, 14 September 2026 – HEINEKEN Malaysia has earned two Gold recognitions at the ESG Positive Impact Awards 2025, highlighting its progress in responsible manufacturing and water stewardship as the brewer accelerates efforts to reduce its environmental footprint across its value chain.
The company was recognised with Gold in the Responsible Manufacturing and Water Management & Efficiency categories, reflecting initiatives spanning renewable energy, emissions reduction, water conservation, waste circularity and community partnerships.
At its Sungei Way Brewery, HEINEKEN Malaysia has cut Scope 1 and 2 production emissions by 45% against its 2022 baseline. The brewery has operated on 100% renewable electricity since 2022 through Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s Green Electricity Tariff programme, complemented by 3,500 rooftop solar panels that generate approximately 2,600 MWh annually.
Water efficiency has improved by 36% since 2014, while the company achieved 221% of its water-balancing target in 2025, with efforts independently verified by LimnoTech. Its water stewardship initiatives include river rehabilitation, watershed protection, peatland restoration and rainwater harvesting.
HEINEKEN Malaysia has also maintained zero waste to landfill since 2017. In 2025, all 35,637 tonnes of production waste were recycled or upcycled, generating RM2.54 million in waste-recovery revenue. Packaging return rates reached 99% for kegs, 89% for bottles and 97% for plastic crates.
Beyond its operations, HEINEKEN Malaysia and SPARK Foundation have invested more than RM16 million since 2007 in initiatives supporting water resilience, healthier ecosystems and communities.
The recognitions reinforce HEINEKEN Malaysia’s commitment to advancing sustainability through collaboration across its operations, suppliers, trade partners and communities.
