CANTEEN MALAYA 大馬食堂 Serves Up A Fresh Seafood Exprience In the Heart Of Jalan Alor

Four Levels, live seafood and an open kitchen bring a fresh new dining destination to Kuala Lumpur’s iconic food street

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 SEPTEMBER 2026 – Jalan Alor has long been synonymous with Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant food scene, and now, Canteen Malaya 大馬食堂 is adding a fresh new flavour to the iconic street with a contemporary seafood dining experience designed for diners to relax, linger and enjoy.

Officially opened along Jalan Alor, Canteen Malaya 大馬食堂 brings together live seafood, an open kitchen and four levels of dining in a comfortable, air-conditioned setting. The concept combines the energy and spirit of Jalan Alor with a more spacious and relaxed environment for Malaysians and international visitors alike.

At the heart of the experience is Canteen Malaya’s live seafood selection. Diners can choose their catch – from fresh fish and tiger prawns to crab – before watching it being prepared to order through the restaurant’s open kitchen.

“Our focus is simple: to serve fresh, honest seafood to everyday diners,” said Ms Patricia Wong, Management Representative of Canteen Malaya.

“Canteen Malaya 大馬食堂 was created specifically for Jalan Alor – a street that welcomes Malaysians and visitors from around the world in search of good local food. We wanted an open kitchen where guests can watch their seafood being prepared, in a space where they can take their time over a meal.”

Crab takes centre stage, with more than 30 flavours and preparations, including 12 signature creations such as Salted Egg Crab, Kam Heong Crab, Sour and Spicy Crab, Indonesian Crab and White Pepper Crab. Other highlights include giant tiger prawns, tank-to-table fish prepared in various styles, steamed clams and squid.

Designed around a central garden with lush greenery and natural light from an overhead skylight, the restaurant features warm wood finishes, earthy tones and an open multi-level layout.

Spanning four levels and accommodating up to 700 guests, Canteen Malaya includes private rooms and an event hall for up to 250 guests, making it suitable for casual meals, family gatherings, celebrations and private functions.

Located at 28, 28A-C, 30, 30A-C Jalan Alor, 50200 Kuala Lumpur, Canteen Malaya 大馬食堂 is open daily from 11.00 AM to 2.00 AM.
