Malaysia Brews a Bigger Future on Asia’s Coffee Stage

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 AUGUST 2026 - Malaysia is taking its love of coffee beyond the neighbourhood kopitiam and onto the regional stage, as Kuala Lumpur prepares to become a new meeting point for Asia’s fast-growing coffee community.

The KL Coffee Festival 2026–2027 and Asia Coffee Summit 2027 were officially launched on 17 August 2026 at Pavilion Damansara Heights, bringing together coffee businesses, industry players, partners and enthusiasts for a celebration of Malaysia’s evolving coffee culture.

Officiated by Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, the launch highlighted how coffee is increasingly becoming part of the travel experience. From traditional kopitiam culture to a vibrant specialty coffee movement, Malaysia offers visitors a taste of the country’s diversity, creativity and hospitality — one cup at a time.

A major milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Huuha Production (M) Sdn Bhd and South Korea-based Asia Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA), paving the way for Kuala Lumpur to host the Asia Coffee Summit 2027 for the first time.

Taking place from 2 to 4 April 2027 alongside KL Coffee Festival 2027, the Summit is expected to bring together coffee producers, roasters, café operators, entrepreneurs and professionals from across Asia. The programme will also feature the Asia Top 100 Cafe Awards on 3 April, shining a spotlight on excellence in the region’s café scene.

Coffee lovers do not have to wait until 2027. KL Coffee Festival 2026 runs from 6 to 9 November 2026, offering visitors the chance to explore Malaysia’s coffee heritage alongside its contemporary specialty coffee culture.

Beyond the beans and brews, organisers see wider opportunities for tourism, hospitality, retail, food and beverage, transport and other sectors connected to the visitor economy.

With Asia’s coffee scene continuing to grow, Kuala Lumpur is ready to serve up something bigger: a regional coffee conversation where culture, business, tourism and lifestyle meet — and where Malaysia hopes every great journey starts with a good cup of coffee.
